Simulacra.
What’s more challenging than life is the attempt to replicate it.
I’ve wandered through its clarity and its roughness, its corners and unfolding spaces, only to realize that no single image can hold it fully. From this impossibility emerges simulacra and its understanding that art is a version of our memory, feeling, and perception recombined.
Alleona Hugo always tells people she's a teacher because it's easier understood than explaining why she failed to pursue arts. Everyday she wakes up contemplating how else could life be so merciless. Every night she falls asleep with the thought of her dog, Rudy, her Nanay's wedding dress, the beach, and all the little things that keep life bearable.
In between, she either struggles or makes art.
